When it comes to North Eastern parts of India , Community and Tribal culture is often talked about. now both the terms are similar, and native people coming from North East always belong to a "community" or tribe or a clan, when people of the 8 sisters come to Delhi and tell others about it. its then they find out the difference
for eg telling a local Delhihite that you belong from a tribe can create a certain image in their mind since to them the word "tribal" is often associated with "people who live in jungle". all thanks to the media portrayal of the word tribal. and when you tell them that you are from a community its then they start respecting you since word community creates an image "Family Values and Mutual Respect" and since people in Delhi also belong from some community "Sharma , Kapoor" etc
same like this there are many communities in 8 Sisters as well for eg "Chalamvah , Rongmei , Panmei , Thanyo , Risom , Awungshi"
both the words Tribal and Community have same meaning to them and follow same tradition and the rich culture. but still one is given respect and other is looked down upon all because of how it sounds or is portrayed as.
